Huawei, EANTC, And Ixia Conducts Industry’s First 1T Line Card Test

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced today that the 1T line card of its core router has demonstrated line rate performance during an independent performance validation by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC). Huawei is excited to showcase another major breakthrough in this field after demonstrating the line rate performance of the 400G line card which achieved 6.4Tbit/s during testing in 2013.

The 1T line card of Huawei’s router includes two types of ports: 8 100GE and 24 40GE. Ixia, a leading IP network verification solution provider based in California, provided its high capacity XG12 chassis alongside Xcellon Lava40/100-Gigabit Ethernet test modules. With its deep understanding of carrier services and with years of accumulation in test methods, EANTC has designed a series of test cases for forwarding, network convergence, power consumption, and function, and has conducted these tests on simulated carrier networks.

Huawei’s routing performance was extraordinary, setting the benchmark for the industry, with the 1T line card realizing a full line speed of over 128 bytes, and using half the amount of standard industry power. In terms of network convergence, the BGP IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack realized convergence of 110 thousand routes per second, three times the industry standard. The NE5000E test, fully loaded with a combination of 10x10GbE, 4x100GbE and 8x100GbE, demonstrated that the NE5000E architecture was both advanced, scalable, and able to smoothly evolve to 1TB, protecting customer investments.

As service providers are dealing with an ongoing explosion of subscribers’ bandwidth consumption increase, providing an independent verification that new line cards will meet their bandwidth and power efficiency demands helps shorten the procurement process and therefore shortens the roll-out cycles” said Carsten Rossenhövel, the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC) managing director. “We were able to verify that Huawei LPUI-1T line card performed at full line rate in our 8x100GbE and 24x40GbE test environment. In addition, we used the ATIS specified methodology to measure the power efficiency of the LPUI-1T 8x 100GbE and measured 667 watts of modular power consumption.”

Naveen Bhat, Vice President and General Manager of Ixia Asia Pacific said: “We are pleased to cooperate with Huawei for the LPUI-1T line card test which is the latest development for Huawei’s NE5000E core router. The testing was performed using Ixia’s High Speed Ethernet testing product – Xcellon which offers the industry’s highest port density for 100 GE, 40 GE and 10 GE testing. Huawei’s NE5000E core router with the LPUI-1T line card has proven to offer leading edge performance and scalability. As a global leader in IP testing, we are looking forward to cooperating further with Huawei to test and verify their new products and solutions.”

Commenting on the test results, Zha Jun, President of Huawei’s Fixed Network Business Unit, said: “After deploying commercial 400G routers globally in 2013, Huawei has again passed the industry’s first 1TB line card test, showing that Huawei’s core router platform is capable of evolving from 400G to 1TB and supporting customers in tackling various challenges, while protecting their investments and meeting customer demand in the ultra-broadband era.”

To date, Huawei’s NE5000E 400G routers have been used by 56 customers globally, including MegaFon in Russia, Mobily in Saudi Arabia, and True and DTAC in Thailand. According to consultancy firm Infonetics, Huawei ranks No. 2 in the global carrier IP market, and Huawei’s IP market share has increased faster than any other providers, as of Q4 2013.
